Start of instance fails during installation

Former Member

Hi there

I've a problem when installing SAP NetWeaver 7.4 SR2 ABAP Application Server on SAP HANA Database. The installation process runs fine until the instance is started (step 17/27) - the error indicates, that ABAP processes on <SID>/DVEBMGS00 did not start after 10:10 minutes...

Do you have any idea what could be the cause?

Thanks for helping on my issue.

Cheers

Florian

It can be multicast/network/firewall or kernel issue.

Please share dev_w0 and dev_disp log files in work directory.

Hi Florian,

shmat(124518422,0x(nil),SHM_RND) (12: Cannot allocate memory) [shmux.c      1591]

I can see shared memory issue coming in trace files.

Either correct the values or update the kernel.

Use sappfpar check pf=<profile> to correct the parameters.

Hello,

From the dev_w0:

A  PXA: Locked PXA-Semaphore.

A  System page size: 4kb, total admin_size: 127396kb, dir_size: 41456kb.

I  *** ERROR => shmat(124518422,0x(nil),SHM_RND) (12: Cannot allocate memory) [shmux.c      1591]

A  RABAX in run level 1

Check the value of the parameter "abap/buffersize". Maybe it is too high.

If it is not set, try setting it to 500MB - 800MB.

Have you configured the Linux kernel parameters based on the SAP recommendation?

Here are the parameters that I used last time.

kernel.shmall=5242880

kernel.msgmni=1024

kernel.sem=1250 256000 100 1024

vm.max_map_count=2000000

Set up the above kernel parameters in the /etc/sysctl.conf and activate them using "sysctl -p"

Additionally the ulimit values for the <SID>adm should be set as recommended in the /etc/security/limits.conf file.

Check note 1704753 - Inst.Systems Based on NetWeaver 7.1 and Higher: UNIX

Lastly, make sure the page file size is good enough. In fact if the size configured is not good enough then increase it and restart the system. Most likely your issue should be fixed.

Hi Isaias

How can I change the value on level os? Thanks for helping.

Hi Benjamin

I've changed values in sysctl.conf and updated limits according to the recommendation in the note. But same behaviour.

How it's possible to increase / change the page file size? (linux). At current, the pagesize is 4096.

Thanks
Florian

Hello Florian,

You can use any OS level text editor (like "vi"), open the instance profile (/usr/sap/BWH/SYS/profile/BWH_DVEBMGS00_sap01) and add the parameter there.

Hi Isaias

it worked!! the parameter abap/buffersize was the problem. I've set it to 600 and now the instance starts resp. the installation continues.

Thanks a lot for helping.

Hi Florian

If possible do the full system restart and then try again in the same phase.

Or Upgrade the latest kernel

Hi SS,

I've restarted the system already and repeated all installation steps a second time (without continuing the old installation) - still same behaviour.

Thanks

Hello Florian,

Please check whether Hana DB started(whether its and up running or not)

If not... start Hana DB and continue with installation.
