Idoc in sales order

Hi,

We are working on a shipper scenario whereby current AS-IS is such that sales order get originated from an external system and through IDoc it gets posted and creates a SO in ECC. However since in TO-BE system sales order creates OTR in TM system via XML hence can experts inform the benefits we have by using XML rather than Idoc to create SO and trigger OTR rather than using idoc ?

Also does  SAP  support creation of OTR from sales order via IDOC?

As far as I know, your second question can be answered with "no", meaning you have no alternative to using the web service interface. I guess that one reason could be that bidirectional communication via IDOC is not easy to achieve, synchroneous 2-way communication like the one needed for sales order scheduling is completely impossible. Furthermore, when using IDOCs, you have to use function modules to some extent whereas for the webservices you can completely rely on ABAP OO.

But maybe someone else can give more insights here 🙂
