what to try SAP SCRIPT or SMARTFORM ??

Hi Frnds,

Suppose you are going to create new form for any business application and you have two choice like create forms in SAP SCRIPT or SMARTFORM. then which you select and why? means which criteria are there to suitable form creation.

So could you give your opinion !!!

Hi,

Both will do same task: mass printing.

SAP SCript is older version and is avaliable in all versions of SAP.

SAP Script is completly driven by codings, so u need to code everything.

feature are limited in SAP Script but in SMARTFORMS you will get plenty of options.

SMARTFORMS need least coding efforts just for fetching data and running smartform function.

Evertything is maintained in SMartform only.

SMART form is not avaliable in 4.6B and older versions

What you want to use depends on client req, what u will feel easy and how it helps u in future. I suggest go for tool which u will use freq in fututer or prefer SMARTFORM.

Adobe forms: this is advanced tool for form printing avaliable in ERP 2005.

Hi Priyank,

If u have experince in script why u need the smartform.

If client is needed the smartform then go for the smartform.

depend upon the spec only we can do.

If u go for the smartform system will give u the 80% coding.

we have write only 20%coding that to select query.

Incase if ur using the script from scrach we have do 100% we have to do.

Sapscript is an old technology, developed in the eighties I suppose.

From a printing program you call functions like OPEN_FORM PRINT_FORM CLOSE_FORM, ... The editor is quite engineer like, you have to have much experience with it.

Smartforms was developed at the end of nineties, it has a WYSIWYG (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WYSIWYG) editor with a user friendlier content structure on the left side.

If you want to create simple forms fast, you can use Smartforms. If the form is very very complex and you have much experience with SapScript, go for it.

The Adobe solution I don't know(yet), consider if you have a new ERP release.

Hi Priyanka,

The smartform and the script does the same work for you. the criteria upon which you selkect samrtforma or script depends upon the following factors.

1) the programming is much simpler in Smartforms.this literally means you can have less development time.even for modifications the smartform is much simpler than scripts.

2)scripts are client and language dependent. this criteria comes into play based on the business need!!!

Based on the client decisiion we can choose that. Suppose client choose to develop script then you may discuss with them and tell like smartform is better than scritp and it have so many advantages....If it will ok with them then develop smartform.EVerything will be based on client decision.

Normally i use SAPscript, but that´s only because i'm very experienced SAPscript user. (10 years+)

If you are new to form printing in SAP and need to learn one of the two tools you should go for Smartforms.

It is a little better, is more flexible and has some extra functions.

If you are on ERP 2005 you should not use any of the 2. Then you should go for the new tool: SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe.
