CI instance is failing with ORA 12170

Hi Friends,

I am performing system copy on target system with CI installation.

System enviornment: Distributed enviornment

While performing the CI Installation, i have received the following error

Log of sapint from sapinst directory

"start was executed with status ERROR ( Last error reported by the step: Instance QAS/DVEBMGS01 reached state SHUTDOWN after having state STARTING. Giving up"

So verified from MMC and performe R3trans-D test but it is failing with 12170

Listerner is working

DB is in open status

Niping from App to Db is OK

Firewall on both the servers is off

Host file is maintained

Followed the article and adapted the changes

1911531 - ORA-12170 or TNS-12535 during connecting to Oracle

Kindly request you to provide the suggestions on the same

Hi Kumar,

Check the below things

1. check the parameter in

SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT, SQLNET.SEND_TIMEOUT, SQLNET.RECV_TIMEOUT in sqlnet.ora file. And increase the vale of the parameter.

2. Also try to logon to oracle

   sqlplus /nolog

   connect /as sysdba

   (if you face any issue with the session/process then increase the   

   processes                = 150

    sessions                 = 300

3. If you are installing the CI on a diffrent host , then recheck the tnsnames.ora file on the CI system.

Hi Ashutosh,

I have maintained the parameters in SQLnet.ora

no issues observed regarding process/sessions in alert_Sid.log

Yes CI is on other server , yes tnsname.ora file is maintained correctly

Perform the telnet to the listener port 1521 or the port whch you have specify from the CI to Database server

telnet <databasehostname> 1521

and share the output.

Hi Kumar,

As per the below error , you are not able to connect to the port 1521 from application server.

Microsoft Telnet> DBSERVERAPP 1521

Invalid Command. type ?/help for help

Microsoft Telnet> o DBSERVERAPP 1521

Connecting To DBSERVERAPP...Could not open connection to the host, on port 1521

: Connect failed

Kindly check the with the OS team and ask them to open the port 1521 on the database server.

Chnaged the parameters in Sqlnet.ora & listerner.ora, firewall down and Hostnames were maintained

Could you refer the SAP KBA for error message "

ORA-20011: Approximate NDV failed: ORA-29913: error in executing ODCIEXTTABLEOPEN callout

ORA-29400: data cartridge error "

1. 2000292 - Oracle internal maintenance jobs fails with ORA-20011 and ORA-29400 in alert.log

Hi Kuamr

You have to do two things.

1. Just do the full system restart on CI & DI and repeat the same phase.

2. On your Source and target kernel level are same?

Just do the upgrade the kernel same as source or about one.

Restarted whole CI and DI and tested  connecting with R3trans-D but still the problem.

On Source it is 700 with Spl 201, on target 721_EXT

Note: We have already performed system copy on Dev it is successfully
