SUM tool: Exchange tablespace creation during upgrade

Hi Experts,

We haev recently done ABAP+Java stack upgrade of out PI sandbox systems. During this we faced error in initial phase "Create tablespace PSAPSR3711X with space ...." . We got the same created with the help of our database team as we do not have orasid access. We ahve also check related notes like 1848753 as well for cleanup. But not able to find any note about creation of this tablespace before starting pathcing activity.

I want to confirm; that for other system like dev, QA and production etc, can we create this exchaneg tablespace (PSAPSR3711x) for shadow instance in advance (To save time which we loose in raising ticket to our DB team and gettign response etc) as we ran SUM tool with sidadm. Or having this table space in advance will not help?

Another option is if we run SUM tool with root user (if we get sudo access); it will create the exchaneg tablespace on its own,

Could you please help me in both questions. 1. Whether creationg this in advace helps 2. Running SUM with root will also promot for this or it will create on its own (if not created in advace) and move on

hello,

Creating tables space with sufficient permission before upgrade of DEV ,QAS and PRD would definitely help. As you have already encountered similar issue. Please check Number of tables spaces and their fill levels. ..do they match.

As per SAP, SUM tool should be running with with SIDADM or else will have face permission issues for various file systems during upgrade

Could you please share if there is any note or ducumentation which suggests that SUM tool should be run with SIDADM or with root. Base don that we will take access accordingly

If you check the documentation from http://service.sap.com/sltoolset -> documentation, you will see:

You start the Software Update Manager [page 64] as user <sapsid>adm on the host with the primary application server instance. You also start the Software Update Manager GUI.

Prerequisites

Before you run the Software Update Manager, make sure that the following prerequisites are fulfilled:●

Your system is up and running. You should not stop the system manually. The Software Update Manager stops and starts it when needed.●

You are logged on to the update host as user <sapsid>adm.

Hi All,

As this exchange tablespace PSAPSR3711x  was created manually during the upgrade from SUM tool. After upgrade it is still lying there, but it is not used anywhere after the stack patch update, so ideally it should be deleted manually for the SAP PI db.

Anyone please confirm with some SAP links.

Please check the SUM upgrade guide regariding the handling of tablespaces.
In addition, refer to KBA : 1848753 .
