Hello, my sap is closed, ora-00471 database error, the database is 10.2.0.2 server is HP-UNIX 11.31. in the start there is a hint that SGA is too small. It is necessary to adjust the SGA? Now SGA size is 17g. "If the database reaches an operating system limit in note:541695 (for example, memory space or number of process it may terminate), the Oracle background processes. Check if sufficient main memory and swap space are physically available and if they can actually be used by the operating system. A maximum address space of two or three GB is therefore available on WINDOWS. On UNIX, operating system settings may limit the resources to be (used for example, maxfiles nfile, or ninode on HP-UX).Is my server configuration problem?

thank you ,

I also found in the /home/***adm/stopdb.log ora-03113 under the error, it has the effect of it? I am now close to the sap, the cluster can not be normally closed, the file system can not be umount

Hi,

yes, you can find the start & stopsap log file in home directory. if some of the  filesystem is not mounted proplery then it can casue issue like this. You can use R3trans -d command with SIDadm logi user and find the translog as well.

Hi,

For SAP on oracle, you can perform auto parameter check as per SAP note

1171650 . The check result will list all the problematic parameter and recommendation.

By the way ORA-00471 means db writer died, which may not be related any parameter setting. To find the root cause, you need to provide alert log and the mentioned oracle trace files.

Some it is someone tried to shutdown database, thus db writer died. So I would say db writer died is reasonable. You can ignore error ORA-00471 which is reasonable.

Hello ,

check the alert log file for more details and for automated DB check please find the OSS note 1171650. Check for background trace file as well oracle/SID/trace/background/tst_pmon_4395.trc   Restart the system and clean the shared memory.

ORA-00471: DBWR process terminated with error

Cause: The Database Writer process terminated abnormally.
