Hi there,
I have a rookie question:
I got confused when reading about HANA multi-host systems. So what exactly is a master host?
I know there is a worker and standby hosts, but in the same document they just talk about master host without giving any definition (I am using "SAP HANA Administration guide"). Is it the host that contains the system database in master configuration?
Thanks!
Hi Elizaveta,
In a nutshell, the master host will have the running name server and hold certain tables in a scale-out scenario. For example on a BW on HANA scale out, the tables to manage the netweaver stack, the row store and the statistics tables wold be on the master node.
There is only one master and the workers/standby nodes can be added and removed from a scale-out as necessary.
The admin guide is a good place to start, but there are many scale-out specific documents you can read, as well.
