Not able to retrieve more than 500000 cells in Design Studio 1.5 on Bex query

We have a design studio report build on bex query. We are
getting the below error message in design studio.

We have increased the cells limit in both Analysis Service and also MDAS from the default 500000.

But still we are getting the above error.

The bex query runs fine in WAD and Bex analyzer.

We had this issue in 1.4 as well so we upgraded to 1.5  , but still this issue is there.

Analysis Service

We have increased the limits in RSADMIN table as well.

Hi Aamir,

I believe Design Studio has a hard-coded safety belt limit of 500,000 cells for BW data sources, regardless of the RSADMIN settings.

If you can provide further information about why you need more than 500K cells perhaps we can provide further guidance accordingly.

Mustafa.

Hi Mustafa,

I am referring the Admin Guide 1.5.

On page 44  Setting RSADMIN parameters  for Analysis  Applications  it says for the below property

Maximum Number of Cells

Maximum number of cells returned per data source.

You can set the parameter either lower or higher than the default value.

500000

I am assuming that increasing this would increase the cells limit  to >500000.

Same is mentioned in the What's new guide

We are converting a WAD report to Design studio and this  WAD works fine in the Web and Analyzer.

But in design studio we are getting this cell limit error.

Now this is very critical as when the user will drag key figures on the crosstab he/she will get this error and hence not able to get the complete data.

Regards

Aamir

Aamir - the only related note I could find on this was released in late March - see http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2141977

Please take a look at that note; if that does not help then I recommend creating an incident with SAP and reference this thread.

Hi Aamir,

Despite what is documented in the Admin Guide and What's New Guide, I have a sneaking suspicion that the internally hard-coded Design Studio "safety belt" of 500,000 cells as mentioned by Karol Kalisz in this comment ignores the RSADMIN settings, so the limit is capped at 500,000.  I could be wrong but this is the impression I get.  Perhaps a member of the Design Studio Team can provide more specific guidance.

Mustafa.

Hi Guys,

We opened a case with SAP support and below is the solution for it.

This seems to be a  issue with 1.5 , To make it work use the below workaround.

1. Open the CMC Server Properties page for your
APS (where you already

set the Maximum number of Cells).

2. In the edit field labelled "Command Line Parameters", immediately

after the string "-server", insert the following text (also see

attached screenshot):

  -DAAD_BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_MAX=1000000

3. Restart the affected APS

Note, as with the other setting, you would need to do this for each

APS within which Design Studio is running.

I tested it for my case (15 Lakh cells) and it works.

It will be addressed in 1.5 Sp1.

Thanks to all guys for their support!!.

Hello Aamir,

there are two parts to the configuration:

(1) - take a look at section 5.3.6 in the Admin Guide for Design Studio with the BI Platform where it outlines where you can set the Maximum Number of Cells on the BI Platform for Design Studio.

(2) For the BW specific settings you can check section 5.3 in the Admin Guide for Design Studio with NetWeaver as it is not mentioned in the other admin guide.

if both items are set, then the lower value will be used

Hi,

as Ingo stated - with release 1.5 - on both platform you can configure the number of maximum cells. And, you can decrease it OR increase it - this means the restriction of hard coded value is gone now. Do not forget to size correctly your system!
