Multiple single instances database instalations on Linux with ASM

Hello everyone,

According to note 1550133, database AND GI installation must be made by "oracle:oinstall":

"Oracle Software Owner
On Unix/Linux platforms, both Oracle Grid and Oracle Database software must be installed by OS user 'oracle:oinstall'."

With multiple database installations, should I still make all the installations with the 'oracle' user, or in this case I should use a 'ora<SID>' user for each installation? There is a note or any other documentation giving any leads?

The note does not specifies if this rules is for single instance or RAC, so I suppose it applies to both. I do have other machines with multiple databases installed, but since they do not use ASM, each instalation is made by the 'ora<SID>' corresponding user.

Tks in advance

Hi,

The rules are the following

11gR2 => If you have to use the clusterware (RAC and/or ASM) then you must use the oracle user

12cR1 => everything is done with the oracle user.

The user ora<sid> could be kept but only for administration of the different instances, it is not used to perform the installations. Could be created afterwards.
