OpenText Archive Server to store archived BW data

Hi Experts:

We are using OpenText Archive Server to store archived ECC data.  Does anyone know if the add on component for ECC would work for BW as we plan to use OpenText to store the archived BW data as well?

Thanks,

JH

Hi J H,

Its better you use NLS (Near Line Storage) for BW rather than opentext archive server.

Thanks,

Bala.

Hi J H,

from technical point of view, you can use Opentext Archive Server. Basically it's the same procedure like in ECC (create content repository in OAC0, customize SARA, ...).

But, as Bala recommends, you should use it only for real archiving, i. e. for the technical objects like IDOC or BWREQARCH and maybe application data if you do not need online access to the archived data.

Otherwise NLS is better.

Thanks Bala and Benedikt for your inputs.  We are only planning to archive staging layer data that won't be reported and accessed to OpenTest Archive Server.  However, my question is in order for OpenText to work for ECC, an addon component had to be installed to enable the connector.  Will this same addon component work if we install it in BW?

Hi J H,

for standard ArchiveLink archiving (like SARA) you do not need to install any addon components.

Anyway, the allowed destination systems should be described in the release notes of the component. How is the name of the component in tansaction SAINT (OTEXBAS, OTEXERP? ).

Why do you need this component? What functions do you use?

Benedikt

Hello JH,

SAP has Archivelink interface to OT and as SAP BW contains analytical data reporting on it and reload cannot( not in case of Nearline Storage Solution) be possible as you know.

The Add-on’s provided by OT in specifically ADA (Archiving & Document Access) is more systematic way of display of data and some other value features.

As you are not much worried about the reporting & reloading they won’t affect you. If you are using OTAS as server for retirement that is good unless no display of data is needed.

Hope I made you understand it. Please ask if you have any questions.

Thanks Kolusu.  We won't be doing any reporting against any data stored in OpenText, so right now we are just using it as an archive server to offload some of the BW data as you have mentioned.  My concern is without the add-on from OpenText installed in BW, we wouldn't be able to control/manage the data that we have archived onto OpenText.  For example, when the data stored in OpenText does reach its end of life, and we have a need to delete it/clean it up, we wouldn't be able to do so.  Do you know if the add on from OT provides such functionality?

Thanks,

JH

We only have the OT add on for ECC, will it work for BW as well?
