Our system : ( AIX, DB2 , PI -  NW 7.3 )

We got stuck on ABAP Extraction phase in SUM ,

Below is the error: unable to execute the sdt request abap operation extract on hostname

and also  we got the error as could not connect to host on port 4240.''

Extraction of the ABAP upgrade request ABAP has failed

Error from unit observer Tool connector failed.

Connection to SAPup could not be established, see following messages.

Could not connect to host <hostname> on port 4240.

java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused

java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused

1.I tried to do the upgrade with fresh SUM from Market place , but I got stuck at extraction

phase .

2. we have tried to free the port 4240  and also we had taken a clean

reboot of system , still it point to the same error

3. we have used to change the port and run the below command

./STARTUP httpport=4438 guiport=4436 -srvarg=/UseCaseService/abaptoolport=4434

and we have changed the port 4240 to 4440 in sdt request.xml and sdtstatistics......xml

4. given full permissions on Upgrade DIR -- No luck.

but unfortunately no luck , still we stuck on this error

Hi shafeeq,

If you are running the SUM from a NFS mount point then you might face the issue.

So extract the SUM tool in /usr/sap/<SID>/ and then start the STARTUP SCRPT.

Let me know the outcome.

Hi Shafeeq,

Was the sum stopped in between or process got killed if yes to a clean stop/start of SUM and retry the Phase again.

The issue seems to be with defunct process of your SUM. And check the lock file in SDT directory after stopping the SUM and clean it up if required.

also do verify your sapstartsrv and sapcontrol process as it mentioned the connection to SAP instance 05 is broken too. SUM check sapstartsrv for the system status.

Let us know the details.

Ram
