1.how to shrink table online and avoid the TM LOCK.'s influence to business.

2. What should i notice at shrinking tables online to decrease the risk? What Pitfalls and Problems was there ?

Hi ,

You can also perform an reorg via brtools.

Please refer to SAP note 646681. For best practice, reorganization is usually used instead of shrink.

Thank you for your answer. But the reorganizaton of  50g greater table will consume  more resourses than the shrinking. Our file system was limited and other tablespace was limited and the main problem was to a big table.

Regarding your question/issue, you can refer to SAP Note 910389 - "FAQ: Oracle Segment Shrinking"  (especially points 7,8,9,10).

thank you for your help. I have seen this note before i did. But the problem was appeared in undo tablespace full and our business was hung because the lock, i think. Furthermore, when i SHRINK SPACE [COMPACT] , the lock tm was still existed. So i was confused.
