Hello,
I need your help here,
Is it stable to run SAP On Microsoft Windows Server 2008 / 2012 with Oracle 11g / 12c database. I know Windows environment is prone to more security vulnerabilities than Linux so we might be exposed to more testing cycles each time patches are applied to Windows.
We want to understand What’s the stability of SAP applications running on Windows?
And is it cost effective to go with Windows compared to Linux OS
If any of you running your SAP on Windows, how do you manage to apply OS Patches and how frequent?
Appriceate your resonse on this..
Thanks,
Guru

1. We are running SAP on Windows with MS Sql DB(Windows 2008 R2 / MS Sql 2008 R2 with Database Compression with HA / DR ), its really free maintenance OS / DB. almost an year time we are not restarted OS/DB & SAP instance on Windows MSCS. (I am not sure about Oracle).
2. In year one or two time you can plan for Patch updates at OS & DB
3. Currently we are in process of upgrade the OS / DB to Windows 2012 R2 & DB MS Sql 2012

Its totally depends the budget of the project and hardware vendor with whom the client wants to go.

You need to check with the Windows team regarding this. As they will give you the proper idea of the patches.

Hi Guru,
Every OS has its advantages and limitations. That same applies for windows.
When it comes to OS fixes and patches, we do a cover them up in monthly or quarterly maintenance window, in which these patches are applied by windows admin team.
Now the decision depends the OS version, how critical they are and on systems needs.
