Installation of SMP 3.0 on same server of SMP 2.3.3

Hello Experts,

We are planning to install the SMP 3.0 SP 05 or latest edition. Can anyone help in common questions related to SMP upgrade.

1. We are already using SMP 2.3 SP 03 PL01 in our landscape. Can you suggest if we can use the same windows server box to install SMP 3.0?

2. Does the installer detects the old version and upgrades it to the SMP 2.3 latest ?

3. We are also using the relay servers and Apache web servers as a reverse proxy. The relay server version is 16.0.0.1535. is this version supported with SMP 3.0 SP 05? If the relay needs to be upgraded, then any document on the relay upgrade?

4. If we use the same box and SMP upgrades it to latest edition then what will happen to existing SQL Anywhere database?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kulkarni,

1. We are already using SMP 2.3 SP 03 PL01 in our landscape. Can you suggest if we can use the same windows server box to install SMP 3.0

I suggest you to check the PAM for both SMP 2.3.x and SMP 3.0.x

fyi: SMP 3.0 runtime only runs on 64 bit machine and can be installed on LINUX REDHAT and SUSE.

2. Does the installer detects the old version and upgrades it to the SMP 2.3 latest ?

If above requirement meets then follow Upgrading a Single-Server 2.3.x Installation

3. We are also using the relay servers and Apache web servers as a reverse proxy. The relay server version is 16.0.0.1535. is this version supported with SMP 3.0 SP 05? If the relay needs to be upgraded, then any document on the relay upgrade?

I couldn't find the RS version details but you should check below links.

Adding Reverse Proxies or Relay Servers - Administrator - SAP Library

4. If we use the same box and SMP upgrades it to latest edition then what will happen to existing SQL Anywhere database?

From SP06 onward, SAP SQL anywhere DB is default database. Shouldnt be a problem while upgrade.

Latest SMP 3.0 runtime version is 3.0 SP07. I will suggest you to do a fresh installation of 3.0.x if possible.

Thank you Brijesh and JK for the suggestions.

We have prepared much now for the SMP 3.0 install.

In our current SUP 2.2.3 version, one of our important app is having the Pool Size set as 100 and we have not added any external parameter in application connection properties under Domains.

The app is stable and working fine now with 1200+ active connections. Can you please provide some details on Pool Size parameter? (Considering both SUP versions, SUP 2.2.3 and SMP 3.0)

1. How it works in SUP connections?

2. What the default size 25 is derived from?

3. What the integer value defines? Is it the number of concurrent

connections? Distinct users etc..?

4. How the parameter value should be? Bigger the better or any

dependencies for the work process available on backend SAP server?

Please suggest.

Thanks Again.
