PI 7.1 Dual stack to PI 7.4 Dual stack upgrade

Hi SAP friends,

We are planning to upgrade PI 7.1 (Dual Stack) to PI 7.4 (Dual Stack). Please suggest best way to do this:

1. In-place upgrade PI 7.1 to PI 7.4 (Dual Stack)
2. New Install PI 7.4 (Dual Stack) and migrate the contents from PI 7.1

my few cents- If you have already decide to go with dual stack, then i don't think it would be good to install a parallel system and migrate them.

Too many systems in the landscape and there would be a lot of effort in switching the channels.. even additional maintenance from infrastructure point of view.

If i'm the decision maker, i'll choose to patch the same system (if i can't convince the customer to go with single stack)

Soon or later, we'll definitely have to go away from dual stack(PI is the only system which is still available in dual stack) which would then must be a migration.

There is no hard and fast rule and it depends on a lot of factors within an organisation. Refer to the following official guide from SAP on the various factors to consider, then you would be able to come up with the best decision for your organisation.
