IP Address required for Installing SAP ECC High Availability

We would like to install SAP ECC with High Availability option. Node A and Node B (Active-Passive). I believe we will require 3 IP addresses

1 physical IP for Node A

1 physical IP for Node B

1 Virtual IP for Cluster Package.

Is it ok to proceed ?

Hello Parin,

Each vendor will have their own recommendations. You haven't really given us much to work with.

You could have one or two IP addresses for each node as one could be the backend maintenance network and the other the frontend network with the floating virtual address being bound to the front address adapter.

As I said, each vendor has their specifics so it would be helpful if you at least mentioned your environment.

eg: AIX HACMP - HPUX Serviceguard etc ....

Kind Regards,

Hello Amerjit,

For AIX HACMP, we will have 1 front address adapter IP + 1 Maintenance IP + 1 Virtual IP

So, for 2 nodes, we required 2 IPs for Node A, 2 IPs for Node B and 1 floaing Virtual IP.

Is it correct ?

Or do we need more floating Virtual IP as well ?

Thanks and Regards,

Hello Parin,

For AIX, HACMP, there is generally one cluster IP/Virtual hostname that fails over to the active node, assuming that you install the Central and DB on the same virtual host.

You perform your installation using the Cluster IP / Virtual hostname.

The physical IP shouldn't be used to configure anything on SAP.
