Why IPC is not built in SAP CRM system like how middleware is present inside SAP CRM system? Kindly explain it elaborately for easy understanding.
I really think this is answered elsewhere but I will explain it again, since I doubt a search can find the answer.
History tells us why:
- IPC was a standalone system written in java for Interent E-commerce applications developed by SAP. The first letter in IPC stands for "Internet". At the time the SAP ABAP Pricing engine was believe not to be robust/fast enough for e-commerce. This was primarily due to hardware / dbms / network issues. The IPC was designed to be on the "web application server layer" instead of being inside the OLTP sytem.
- SAP then decided instead re-writing the IPC in ABAP they would instead put a JAVA VM inside of CRM ABAP stack and migrate the IPC into that layer(way confusing, but technically less work than a re-write).
It's not a simple answer but the decision was made around Y2K and we have been stuck with the legacy of that decision for the past 15 years .
Take care,
Stephen
