SUM: Upgrading 7.40

Dear SCN members,

When running SUM it stops at following step :

Severe error(s) occurred in phase PREP_PRE_CHECK/PROFREAD!

Last error code set: Start profile name '<SIDID>_DVEBMGS00_hostanamesid' and instance profile name '<SIDID>_DVEBMGS00_hostnameSID' differ in their case sensitivity but describe the same file. <br/> Please fix the spelling of the profile names and host names in all your profiles, restart your instances AND instance services, and continue with the execution of SUM

Please note that the SAP system is on 7.40 release and we don't have START profile.

I mentioned hostnamesid and hostnameSID becasue that's the error which SUM finds.Under profile directory we have only 1 Instance profile and 1 default profile

Can you please advice from where SUM reads the Profile's? It's SAP DB or File System sapmnt?

Please advice what to do ....thank you!

Hi Andy,

- Remove all the unwanted profile from the profile directory.

- Restart the sapstartsrv service

sapcontrol -nr XX -function RestartService

Then try to re-execute the SUM.

Hi Andy,

Do perform the activities mentioned by Ashutosh. also do verify in your sapservice profile if you have muitiple entries for your instance profile.

The file can be seen as /usr/sap/sapservices. this file is refered by your sapstartsrv and sapcontrol.

Also as you have mentioned do only keep actual instance profile. Remove other files any backup profiles or links from the /sapmnt/<SID>/Profile.

As sometimes the links or older profile create issue for the SUM in detection of instance.

Do let us know the outcome.

Regards,

Ram

Hello Andy,

It is read from the profile file that is on the file system. So it is important to have this file corrected. Check if the parameters/names are correct in terms of case sensitivity as well.

But it is also important to keep only the active profile files in this folder.

  • Clean up the ../SYS/profile/ folder: Make sure this folder only contains active profiles. Remove/move all other files including backup copies of the profile.
  • Restart the system, then continue the SUM upgrade.
  • If the upgrade still cannot continue, reset the SUM upgrade and start again from the beginning.

Best Regards,

Peter Tari
