Upgrade to SPS09 - Tool upgrade

Hi to all,

I am preparing to upgrade my HANA DB to SPS 09 the last REV

Current HANA DB version is: SPS 08 REV 1.00.84.00

My questions are:

What is the best tool to upgrade the DB?

1. usinghdblcm?

2. usinghdblcmgui?

3. SAP HANA Lifecycle management?

Till now I was used the SAP HANA Lifecycle management for upgrade

So I am very confused now.

The Lifecycle manager from the pics above, is the HDBCLM web user?

Because in the hdbclmgui I can't find update process

So what is your recommendation?

Hi Naor,

Did you run hdblcmgui located in downloaded SPS 09 and its Rev medium?

<installation medium>/DATA_UNITS/HDB_LCM_LINUX_X86_64

Hi,

I opened the hdbclmgui from the extract dir of the installation,

and It's not recognize the SAPHOSTAGENT even that I downloaded the SAPHOSTAGENT

do you now why?

Hi,

To upgrade the SAPHOSTAGENT to latest version previously installed SAPHOSTAGENT should be available.

Or else you can do the installation/updation of hostagent separately as well.

SAP hostagent will be updated when you update the system.You dnt have to do explicitly.

Hello Naor,

According the document SAP HANA Server Installation and Update Guide SPS 09, it mentions:

All SAP HANA platform components can be updated using the SAP HANA database lifecycle manager
(HDBLCM) Web user interface. This method is available only for update of SAP HANA Support Package Stack
(SPS) 09 systems to higher revision. SAP HANA SPS 08 systems cannot be updated to SPS 09 using the SAP
HANA database lifecycle manager Web user interface.

Hello Naor ,

First thing which i would suggest is dont go for SP09/Rev94 - if you need to update your HANA thn go for Rev85.2.

(unless you planning to use new features from rev94)

Second - hdblcm and hdblcmgui both are same - its text vs graphics , which ever you prefer.

Hi Naor,

It's down to a matter of choice between hdblcm(gui). Text or graphical.
