Something about "runU" folder

Former Member

Hello Guys!

Excuse me, perhaps a stupid question for an SAP Administrator but could someone clarify for me the sense of the "runU" folder on here XI 3.0 system (NW04, WAS 640, unicode).

E:\usr\sap\DX3\DVEBMGS05\SYS\exe\run

E:\usr\sap\DX3\DVEBMGS05\SYS\exe\<b>runU</b>

Some special tasks required related to a Kernel upgrade?

I couldn't find usefully documentation for this!

Regards,

Jochen

Hi Chilla!

SAP Note 668606

...

b.If you want to delete the central services instance of a

J2EE Add-in installation:

rm #rf <sapmnt>/<SAPSID>/exeU

6. Remove the softlinks:

rm /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/exe/dbg

rm /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/exe/<b>runU</b>

rm /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/profile

rm /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/global

...

That's all!

Regards,

Jochen

Hi Chilla,

many thanks for your effort but none of the Links explains the sense of the "runU" folder or how to handle with it during Kernel upgrade.

Gradually I think it's a magic issue!

try to search the kernel upgradation document on Service.sap.com.

See the below link

I have open SAP Ticket regarding this magic issue.

Many thanks to all for support!

Now here the SAP answer:

The directories exeU and runU are directories for the Central Services

Instance (SCS) of the J2EE with patch level 5 and higher.

You will need this directory/link for running the J2EE correctly.

This directory will be updated with the Support Packages for the J2EE.

Do you plan to upgrade or to update the kernel? If you will

download the new kernel patch for ABAP, you have only to maintain

the exe-directory.
