Hi everyone, we are curently going through the 74 upgrade process.
We started with one dual stack server TBW running NW 7.21.
We ran the split stack tool and now have 2 servers - TBW (ABAP) and TBJ
(JAVA).
Using SUM we upgraded TBJ to NW 7.4 and it everything was OK with this JAVA server after the upgrade.
We then moved on to ABAP server TBW.
During the upgrade SUM told us we had to use SSFS.
We configured this on TBW and the ABAP server is now using SSFS and
running NW 7.21. So all is currently OK with the ABAP server.
But this seems to have an effect on our JAVA server - it is no longer
working, or starting.
R3trans shows :
This is R3trans version 6.25 (release 742 - 11.02.15 - 14:06:42).
unicode enabled version
2EETW169 no connect possible: "DBMS = ORACLE --- dbs_ora_tnsname = 'TBJ'"
R3trans finished (0012).
How does SSFS on our ABAP server effect our JAVA server and how can I
get JAVA to start again
Thanks so much
Hi Terry,
after configuring SSFS on ABAP server, our JAVA server wont start
As per trans.log you supplied i don't think your ABAP instance is using SSFS database connection method. You could find as
|
| 28 0.001538 |
And as per me still ABAP instance is using OPS$ mechanism .So i suggest try to recheck with SSFS configuration & the parameter
rsdb ssfs_connect=1
If still persists issue re-share the trans.log .
Hope this will help you.

Also,
Have you setup SSFS correctly as per
https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1639578
Your R3trans -d shouldn't fail, it it is failing that would mean that the environment variables for the <sid>adm users aren't pointing to the correct location of the secure key.

Terry,
4 ETW000 [dbsloci.c ,00000] *** ERROR => Connect via SAPUSER not supported for kernel >= 740. | 4196 0.056983 |
The above is a information/warning even though the text contains the word "ERROR". In any case, as has been pointed out, the J2EE doesn't use that mechanism.
The R3trans -d on the J2EE is always going to fail with a RC=12.
Look in the traces/logs of your log and work to see why the J2EE isn't coming up.
/usr/sap/TBJ/Jxx/work/std_server0.out
/usr/sap/TBJ/Jxx/j2ee/cluster/server0/log/defaultTrace_00.0.trc (or whatever the current file is)
Also check J2EE_ADMIN/SAPJSF on your ABAP stack as I assume your UME is still pointing there.
Cheers,
Amerjit
Hello Terry,
SSFS was meant to replace OPS$ mechanism on oracle, AS Java doesn't use this mechanism to login, its credentials are already stored in secure storage.
Use the configtool to check if JAVA can connect to secure storage.
Check the following link:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/47/af5753fa711503e10000000a42189c/content.htm
I suspect that the kernel upgrade that you performed knocked off some directory permissions for /global/security/data etc.

Hi Terry,
Please provide the entire trans.log to analyze.

Hi,
Regarding this "ERROR=>Connect via SAPUSER not supported...", you can check below SAP Notes:
