No Progress at 'PREP_IMPORT/TOOLIMPI' while updating the patches using SUM tool

Hi Experts,

I am trying to update the patches in solution manager system 7.1 by using SUM tool.

at 5.2 extraction, process is taking much time ( since 12 hours) at phase PREP_IMPORT/TOOLIMPI and no progress in the logs.

I am not getting any error also. its saying phase :PREP_IMPORT/TOOLIMPI is running. Phase status :: Imports tools.

I have restarted the SUM tool many times, but every time at this phase, I am facing the same issue and I am not able to proceed further steps.

There is no log created with the name toolimpi in sum directory.

SAPup.log showing as

CURRENTPHASE PREP_IMPORT/TOOLIMPI

...started at 20150331194621

...begin processing at 20150331194622

Pls help me to find out the root cause and the resolution.

hi Vamshi ,

Can you check the SAP Note 1432548 - IBM i: TP hangs in phase TOOLIMPD during upgrade or EHPI.

Check your kernel version and upgrade the kernel to the latest version available in SMP  and then try repeating the phase .

Check the note 1635605, the symptoms you describe seem similar to the issue this note resolves for Oracle DB / Windows

This is what solved my problem;

adding the parameter:

_USE_ZERO_COPY_IO=FALSE  in Initsid.ora file.

I have restarted the SUM tool many times, but every time at this phase, I am facing the same issue

many times? How you are doing that?

Are you just closing the SUM tool and opening it again. If yes, the SUM process will be running in the background.

You have to kill the SUM process(SAPup) from OS level & then repeat the phase where you stopped.

Yes pavan, I did the same, this time I have restored the system and started the SUM along with server reboot..

I am not able to find, why the process is still in running status and no logs are updating.

Hello Vamsi,

Can you also please check if there are any logs written tmp directory?

\usr\sap\SID\SUM\abap\tmp

Also please check if there are any dumps in your system?

Thanks,

Hi Sowmya,

I have closed the tool and again started.

At this time, Process 'PREP_IMPORT/TOOLIMPD' is running since long time(12 hours).

In ABAP system 1 dump is generating with "syntax error in the program 'SAPLSDB6'"

Error analysis
    The following syntax error was found in the program SAPLSDB6 :
    "The data object "PROC" does not have a component called "WP_NO"."

There are some log files generated in ../SUM/abap/tmp directory, but those are not having much information other than log directory logs.

Could you attach the full dump here, in text format.

In the meanwhile do check the below notes.

337465 - Syntax error in SAPLSDB6

1891916 - Syntax error in SAPLSDB6 include RADICONS

HI,

========================================================================

Short text
     Syntax error in program "SAPLSDB6 ".

What happened?
     Error in the ABAP Application Program

     The current ABAP program "SAPLSICN" had to be terminated because it has
     come across a statement that unfortunately cannot be executed.

     The following syntax error occurred in program "SAPLSDB6 " in include "LSDB6U34
      " in
     line 25:
     "The data object "PROC" does not have a component called "WP_NO"."

=====================================================================

The problem is that ddicnvpros structure does not have the field WP_NO but this is still used in SAPLSDB6.

Could you check in version management, which transport have last changed these obhjects ?

Thank you.

Hi Rahul,

Our OS is windows and there is still 90 GB free in Oraarch drive. I believe space is not an issue.

Can u pls let me know, which log file we need to check for this issue.

Hi Vamshi,

do the following:

1. If SUM is not showing any improvements, kill it process and clean all its temp files. Also, check the amount of space in your current drive. After all checks done, restart SUM again.

2. do not forget to clean the trans directory before starting fresh SUM.
