domain naming conventions and keywords

Can we setup a domain name sap.parentdomain.com for SAP landscape installations.

I know we cannot use SAP as an SID however as a domain name, I am not sure.. Does any one see a flaw with this or any SAP reference guidelines being deviated. Please let me know your thoughts

Hello Kalyana,

It is not explicitly documented, but you can use it.

An example of domain name in SAP installation guide.

SAP is a reserved word for SID as you know.

The hostname mentioned in installation guide is only: For more information about the allowed host name length and characters allowed, for SAP system instance hosts, see SAP Note 611361

Straight ans is Yes,you could use sap as a domain name under your landscape.For an e.g service.sap.com or https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/support  itself .

Hello Kalyan,

I don't think there is any restriction on using SAP in the domain name - Unfortunately cannot give you reference to any documents but have worked for a company that did use SAP in their domain name for all SAP installations
