Power Designer DataArchitect 16.5

Former Member

We currently have 1 license of DataArchitect 16.5 standalone with no support or maintenance.  We need to purchase DataArchitect 16.5 Repository edition with support and maintenance but need to make sure the current license will be able to connect to the repository and be added to the support included in the Repository version license so we can upgrade both when new releases come out.

Does anyone know if the standalone license can be rolled over into the DataArchitect Repository edition license?

Thanks

Hello Mary,

The PowerDesigner DataArchitect does not allow users to connect to the repository, when the DataArchitect Enterprise (with Repository) does it.
If you need all users to access the repository from the PowerDesigner client, you have to migrate the existing licenses to DataArchitect Enterprise. Users who have their PowerDesigner configured with a DA license do not have the Repository feature enabled. The others who changed their license parameters to use a DAE license can connect to the repository.
Note that you can use the PowerDesigner Portal (separate tool provided with PD setup) to visualize the repository contents from a web browser.

Hi Mary,

I have a little bit different information than Arnaud. From your description it seems, that you have the DataArchitect/DM edition (DM = Data Modeler) without repository access. You can find out by searching "DataArchitect/DM" string in your license file. Newly purchased licenses are no longer called Data Architect Enterprise, but "DataArchitect/RE".

It definitely won`t be problem to upgrade/change your current PD license to higher edition. Standalone to Floating or DM to RE.

But if you are planning to buy new (second) license with access to repository and your current license is only DataArchitect/DM edition, it won`t be able to connect to repository.

Ondrej

Hello Mary,

I confirm you can upgrade your existing licenses to another edition that provides more features.
But if you wish to have both DA/DM and DA/RE, note that DA/DM users will not have access to the repository.
