EHP7 Upgrade with PSAPSR3_NEW Tablespace

Hi ,

We are moving our Database from 70GB FS to 500GB FS, As per of this activity we are performing reorg of all tables from PSAPSR3 to PSAPSR3_NEW and then they will be moved back on new FS under PSAPSR3.

Moving of tables PSAPSR3 to PSAPSR3_NEW is taking more than expected time and we will have EHP6 to EHP7 upgrade where we might be in situation where we have all tables moved to PSAPSR3_NEW and no PSAPSR3 tablespace existing or blank in system.

Will we have any impact of this activity on EHP7 Upgrade, Does any SUM step and anywhere in upgrade it needs standard tablesapce names to be available.

or We can perform Upgrade with any naming convention tablespaces.

Please suggest.

Regards,

Shivam

Hi Shivam

Out of curiosity.

After you moved all objects to PSAPSR3_NEW is there a step needed to move them back? Or is there a chance to create the tablespace PSAPSR3_NEW already on the new FS? If this is possible, then maybe a rename (with brtools) would to the trick.

Hello Shivam,

Please check that OSS note and help.sap link, in order to troubleshoot upgrade errors about your tablespace layout. The note contains very specific and detailed information about different scenarios:

1805195 - Handling and troubleshooting of tablespaces during Upgrades, EhPs and SPs updates

SAP Naming Conventions for Tablespaces and Data Files - SAP Database Guide: Oracle (BC-DB-ORA-DBA) -...

Try not to make any "out-of-standart" changes on your database and give priority to SAP-supported tools (BRTOOLS like James said) to make this kind of modifications.

I hope it helps,

Serhat

Dear Shivam,

As long as the tables' data class and corresponding tablespace mapping in TAORA, IAROA and TSORA do not have mismatch, the upgrade would be fine.

However if you are doing all the reorganization action via SAP brtools, then the mismatch should not occur, thus the upgrade won't get affected.

Best regards,
James
