Keep new kernel after restore?

Hi guys,

I have a DEV system on V6R1, and i have a backup prior to Kernel and Support Package Update.

Sittuation prior to update:

Kernel: 701 PL 150

Subsystem: R3_<SNR>

SAP Executable Library: SAP<SID><UC>

Sittuation afterupdate:

Kernel: 721 PL 417

Subsystem: SAP<SNR><SID>

SAP Executable Library: SAP<SID><IND>

Customer wants to do a rollback prior to Kernel and Support Package Update but without affecting Kernel version.

Questions:

Is this possible?

What does this imply on manual work prior/after the restore?

What are the considerations?

It is kind urgent...

Thank you in advance for your kind support.

Hola Martim,

In my opinion there's no need to downgrade your kernel back. Since 721 kernel is backward compatible, keep your up-to-date kernel even you'll restore your system to the state without new SPs.

Best regards,

Hi guys,

Customer made restore of R3<SID>DATA and R3<SID>JRN and everything went fine, system started ok although its regenerating everything for the new kernel (backup used for restore was previous to kernel upgrade).

Thanks for the clarifications

i would restore the backup (before update)

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry to include so little detail, so, what if i just restore R3<SID>DATA and R3<SID>JRN ? Will the kernel switch and CNVUSRCPT be necessary? Would that be doable with no hassle?

Thank you.

sorry, Martim,

but i am not sure enough in details to answer that question,

maybe you will get an answer from Volker Güldenpfennig

or by opening a SAP support-ticket?
