EhP7 Upgrade issue with Kernel

Former Member

Hi Experts,

I have ERP 6.0 EhP3 with Kernel 738, now i have prepared for EhP7 upgrade. Downloaded all required SP's from MOpz with kernel 742.

Started upgrade with 721_EXT kernel which already there, but i got an error as attached.

It require Kernel 740 with Patch level 10. I have applied kernel 740 but my system was not up.

So now i degraded kernel to 738 now my system is up and running fine.

But even i am getting the same error as it is asking for 740 patch 10.

Please help me on this issue.

Thank you for your co-operation.

In the screen it is showing Curr Rel as 720 & PL is 10. But my system has Curr Rel. 738 and PL 53.

It is showing the same error for all kernel releases.

Regards,

Praveen M

Hi Praveen,

Please download as mentioned by Manu/suddhesh the kernel for 740 Patch level 10 and copy it in you download directory where you kept all your patches.

Let us know the update. As once you keep it there during checks phase it will validate the version and will allow you tp proceed ahead.

Hi,

What is the version of br tools in the newly downloaded kernel.

I suggest to add latest version of the same to exe folder

You could try to put br*tools 740 into upgrade directory without extraction of same.

Thanks,

Install the required version of BRTOOLS and you should be fine, pay attention to the correction note in case you run into issues further.

12741 - Current versions of BR*Tools

1838850 - Corrections in BR*Tools Version 7.40

Hi Siddhesh,

Install the required version of BRTOOLS and you should be fine

We need not to install the brtools here, just requires to put the download (BRTOOLS 740) into the upgrade directory, rest will be taken care by SUM tool.

Hope you'll be agree with me.

He has mentioned already that using MOPZ he has downloaded kernel 7.42 for the upgrade, so potentially the SUM directory is okay, but I would say let him decide what the problem he is facing and what solution would be applicable.

Hi Gaurav ,

Not sure on this , But believe it needs to be extracted as the extraction step is already completed and the  error is on one file 'BRCONNECT'  . But may be i am wrong

Hi Praveen ,

Check whether the files in /SUM/exe  are already extracted , if its extracted extract the new 740 Brtools and  replace in the /SUM/abap/exe

Thanks ,

Manu

Hi Praveen,

As suggested by Manu do check the new exe, And also do verify the exe directories under /sapmnt/<SID>/exe & the instance exe /usr/sap/<SID>/DV*<Inst Nr>/exe.

whether you have all right kernel files there. And Do not upgrade the kernel in those till it crosses extraction or other phases.

Ram

Hi Manu,

But believe it needs to be extracted

I suggested not to extract as per recommendations under SAP Note  211077 - Replacement of target release kernel for upgrade/EHPI

2. EHP Installer or Software Update Manager:

Save the downloaded files in the download directory and repeat the phase.

Upgrade:

Unpack the archives to <DIR_PUT>/exe or <PUTDIR>/exenew as follows:

Here upgrade itself unpacks the archives downloaded by repeating the phase again.

Thanks,

Hi  ,

The error is complaining about the target release and not the source release

The latest BR tools for the 740 Version and  place them extracted in the SUM/exe directory and try once again

Thanks ,

Have you reset the complete process & tried ? Suggest you to start from scratch & share the results.

Hello Praveen,

Look at the screenshot properly, the issue is not with your kernel.

It is with brconnect tool , the brconnect tool needs to be of version 7.40.
