Starting central instance error during instalation progress

Hi ,

I am installing ehp6 with db2 getting error while starting system.Error triggered when sapcontrol starting. yesterday i could not post my output cause scn reject my post .i am able to give output whoever assist through email.

Hi Arul

I think your SAP system kernel & DBSL level are low, you have to upgrade the kernel with DBSL patch latest level. the same issue which we faced in installation / System copy(In Windows OS), during that time we use the download the latest kernel from service market place.

Before upgrading on your Unix OS take the exiting kernel backup and then upgrade the latest level.

After you added space etc, have you restarted the entire process? if you simply tried restarting from where you left, all your SAP parameters will still have old values, its better to restart from scratch, when you make such massive change to OS.

Yes,

I think you should, continuing OLD installation, will use the same values your installer had auto-calculated using the RAM sizes of the past.

Hi ,

Stop the SAP system and clean the shared memory segments and start the SAP system.

SIDADM> cleanipc all remove

AIDADM>ipcs ( check if any ipcs objects with sidadm and kill those process too)

See the error in dev_disp log:

you need to check if that there is enough swap space available..This error is due to insufficient memory too( if you are going to extend any swap memory need system restart required).

Hi Arul,

Please check the permissions of /tmp directory. Last month I had a similar issue and resolved by giving the full access to /tmp.

Like which phase the error is coming and what error and any specific return codes your seeing.

Can you please check if you have the sapstartsrv service are up and running. Also provide us with the dev_ms, dev_w0 logs too so that we can check on the issues further.

I think you have to do the full system restart and try,

Current kernel level is low, you may require to upgrade the kernel minimum 325 and above.
