Hello NW Admins,

I have requirement to setup email configuration in SAP system, which are on SAP cloud.

My customer have Office365 online as mail server, it is not hosted in same network as in SAP system are.

I tried searching for notes and threads on it but did not get any proper guideline on how to setup this.

Do I have to setup virtual mail/relay server in SAP system's network.?

Please suggest on this if anyone has setup it earlier.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Ashish

Issue solved, it was network blocking office365 host.

Only extra thing is we need to activate TLS authentication.

Will it help if we set up virtual SMTP relay server in SAP system network.

SAP -> Virtual SMTP Relay server -> Office365 Online server

Please suggest.

Hello Ashish,

From your SAP server (at OS level) are you able to issue the command:

telnet <mail server hostname> 25

when you issue the command is it successful ?

Hi,

For Office365 provide SMTP relay solution .

You can take a look athttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/2600912

[ARCHIVED] [SOLVED]Office 365 and SMTP relay | Email and calendar | Microsoft Office 365 Community

You need to setup an IIS server to ensure the SAP system can send email properly. Further, there are two points are very important.

1, TLS users for SMTP connection

2, the "FROM "address which generate by the SAP application should same as the SMTP authentication address.

Refer to these notes

1724704 - SCOT: Settings for TLS and SMTP AUTH

2000465 - Support of AUTH LOGIN as SMTP client

1747180 - SMTP via TLS and SMTP authentication

Thanks for the reply Bevin.

I checked all provided notes already and made changes according to KBA#1702632 and 1724704.

First link is not working : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2600912

Is this mandatory to setup relay server.?

Without setting up relay server- I am getting below error message,

----------------------------------------------

Message cannot be transferred to node SMTP due to connection error (final)

Message no. XS816

Diagnosis

The message was processed correctly in the SAP system. Due to a technical fault, the connection to the server <mail server ip>:587 could not be established or was interrupted. The message could not be copied to node SMTP.

Information from external system (if available)

Connection refused

Procedure for the administrator

Check the connection from the SAP system to node SMTP.

----------------------------------------------

I think it can be issue due to mail server host resolution from SAP side, but problem is I do not have OS access.

Ashish

Hi,

I think it can be issue due to mail server host resolution

Could you check with IP of mail server instead of host name as getting name resolution issue.

Hi Ashish,

connection to the server <mail server ip>:587

Is your mail server respond on 587 SMTP port ? Kindly confirm from mail server admin or team at your end. There may be an issue related with the wrong port also ( Could be 25 as well).
