Hello Members,
There are many stopped and disabled servers in our existing Business Objects landscape. The entire landscape has approximately 36 * 4 services. These services are installed across a 4 box landscape.
We have identified atleast 12 services in each node of the landscape which are in stopped and disabled state for ages. These services are mainly the distributed APS services which probably had some issues and then never cleaned up.
My query is as below:
1. Is it necessary to remove such services?
2. Any impacts on existing landscape if they are not removed at all.
Regards,
Arvind Pandalai
It is always better to remove services that are not used (disabled/stopped).
makes everything work a bit faster

Arvind,
I would still investigate why you have so many extra servers on each node:
Here is link to APS Best practice document:
Have the server NOT running will NOT use any extra resource? I would strongly recommend investigating prior to just deleting the servers.

Ajay

Hello Ajay,
Thank you for the update.
Please find answer to your queries:
Sorry I am not aware of this.
Looking to the present setup it does look like incorrect split as well as sizing. We have a 4 node cluster as mentioned earlier and most of the stopped / disabled services are majorly in 2 nodes.
I have the Best Practice Document for APS split. Thanks for sharing though.
Split was not performed by me. Interesting to know that there is a functionality called APS wizard..Please provide a link for the same if possible.
We have 4.0 SP04 version in the existing setup Please let me know about the APS wizard. I believe this feature was not available in any SP of 4.0 till SP09.
When we talk about investigation. What investigation has to be performed? I don't know from where to start here . The only knowledge I have for this setup is that these services were the same for last 13 months and not touched at all.
Regards,
Arvind
