Dear Guys,
What is the best practise to take database backup of SAP & SQL Server 2005 ..??
Please suggest me asap.
Regards,
Charanjit Singh.
In answer to your question.
The best practice for any DB is full online backups daily with transaction log backups based on the desired recovery window you need to meet the business requirements. (ie what the max loss of data the business can stand - none is not an answer).
28 day cycle, no offline backs are needed nor recommended - recovery should be from online + TLogs
As a rule on systems with low- medium levels of users >150 users i generally set the backup times to hourly though the working day dropping off about 2 hours after COB.
To do this type of scheduling it normally better to do it outside SAP (DB13), via either SQL directly, or using an agent such as veritas. DB12 will still report
current state of backups.
Also backup the MSDB and Master DBs daily, Model only if you make changes to the DB (ie this DB is used as a model for creating new DBs only, its a template)
Tempdb is used for sorting data only so is not required to be backed up, you can just recreate it if needed.
