BI4 Template server

Hello,

As part of our projects, we want to create a "template" by duplicating a server.

The aim is to save time compared to a standard installation and configuration.

However, after a first test, it seems that we have to do some configuration after the deployment: SIA to recreate, Hostname to change in the BO configuration files ... We can't find all the modifications to do to make our server functionnal.

Can you tell us, first, if this kind of installation is possible (recommended or not) and if so, whether there is a procedure or feedback on this subject, so that we can validate a configuration purposes.

Thank you for your help and good day.

Denis,

The best to create a BASE LINE install is using Symantec Ghost Imaging,  The BI 4.1 is an Application install and it is depend on the name of the server.  As long the server name would stay the same you can Symantec Ghost Imaging software as your base.

Also such feature should be available using VMWare software as well.

Ajay

Hello Ajay,

Thanks for your answer.

So, for us, we need to deploy as business objects solution for different companies using our documents/universes.

The name of the server is the same, but the DNS not. It means that the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) is never the same and it need to be changed every time we deploy the product.

The question : Is it possible to optimize BI4 installation for different server and different FQDN. If the time spent to optimize the template/ghost server is most important or the same that a new installation, it’s not interesting for us.

The modifications that we have identified are :

- Modify the FQDN (maybe we can make a script or use an existing script to replace the DNS),

- Create another SIA based on the new database server,

- ...... (others cases that we currently unaware).

If it's possible to optimize the BI4 installation, it could be better for us.

Thanks a lot for your help.
