variable creation in BO webi report

Hi Experts,

I want to create a variable by using  the following objects.

Final rating is the measure and user name is dimension object.

APPRAISEE	FINAL RATING	CALYEAR	USERNAME
Manager	8.5	2008	mgr
subordinate1	9	2008	sub1
subordinate2	9.5	2008	sub2
subordinate3	8	2008	sub3

from the above table I want to create a variable and get the manager rating only .

but I am getting blank value in the variable column.

formula:

manager rating = final rating where username = " mgr".

pleas help me here.
