Lumira Desktop - who supports and tests?

Dear Colleagues,

We are in the process to install Lumira Desktop but for us it is unclear who is the best group to support (take care of incidents in case of issues, triggers patching and test the tool). For SAP GUI our SAP Basis guys are responsible, they make sure that the SAP GUI is packaged, tested and rolled out to all workplaces once a year. The MDM console is handled by the application team due to different reasons.

One of the reason why I would not see the patching, rollout with the SAP Basis team is that they will not use the software and therefore will have not the knowledge to support it. On the other side there is the tight integration between Lumira Desktop and Lumira Server...

What is your opinion?

Regards,

Alexander

Hi Alexander - for Lumira Desktop, you can set it so it checks for updates itself - this is what I do without relying on IT/Basis

Another option is to use Citrix - see this blog by Ian:

Dear Tammy,

Is there not a direct dependency between the Lumira Server and desktop? So in case we patch the Lumira Server all the clients need to be updated?

Regards,

Alexander

Hi Alexander - re: Lumira Server, we are not using; we are trialing Lumira Edge, which I as a business analyst can manage without IT

HI

the risk in autoupdating the clients is that the server version may lag behind until that infrastructure is patched , leading to potential functional errors due to incompatibility

for that reason you might want to consider (if you are businessobjects bi custome) using desktop governance to control how your users update their clients (if at all)

in my opinion the mandate to update should come from the business , for functional (enhancement) reasons , rather than IT/basis just doing it by default when a new release is shipped by Sap

essentially all businesses coordinate it slightly differently, based on internal processes and historical preferences or behaviours, so it's all about finding out what works for your organisation by ensuring clear communication

Hello,

to expand on what Henry is saying an important fact about the current SAP Lumira architecture is that Server and Client must match exactly.

The other important point is that SAP Lumira falls into the Low Touch product category and only the most recent release is supported. When an issue is reported the first step will be to confirm if it is resolved in the most recent release.

With this in mind the mindset is to constantly upgrade Lumira which is very different from SAP BI.

This has been made easier by the introduction of the UAFL library which allows SAP Lumira
Server to support multiple revisions of HANA (currently 82, 83, 84, 85 for prod and 90, 91, 92 for dev/test).

Thank you
