Delete entries in java table BC_MSG_LOG

Hi all,

our java table BC_MSG_LOG contains more than 1 million entries. We tried to delete them by executing the default delete job as described in SAP Note 872388 - part 3g). It dit not lower the amount of entries. We decreased the java property messaging.log.retainTime from 7 to 1 days. Another job restart didn't work either.

Can you please support us here? Which step or configuration are we missing? Might a database reorg help in this situation?

It is a PO 7.4, Java-only.

Dear Claudia,

we changed the parameter messaging.log.retainTime from 7 to 14 days. No change in behaviour.

But after a system restart a few weeks after, the parameter works now. Hence, it is not online modifiable and needs a restart.

According to SAP support, this should be fixed with SAP Note 2218407.
