Solved: START Java fails on SUM upgrade - Execution phase

We're using SUM SP12 to upgrade ECC6 system, and we're having some issues during the execution phase, with the startup of the java instance.

Hi Yogesh,

Now that you have already ran a manual synch, you may try this:

1. Bring your Java instance out of "Safe Mode" through Config Tool.

2. Restart your SAPSTARTSRV service using below commands

stopsap -t startupsrv

startsap -t startupsrv

3. Manually start Java

Correction in my last post . I did not mean the following

3 ) Remove the parameter

DIR_CT_RUN = /usr/sap/NP3/SYS/exe/run

I meant

service/protectedwebmethods = NONE

You should be placing this in the instance profile

Note : Take a backup of the profile directory

The SAPCPE should be copying from /usr/sap/NP3/SYS/exe/run or /sapmnt/SID/exe to /usr/sap/<SID>/<Instance>/exe

Hi Yogesh,

Follow the below steps:

1. Open the configtool and bring the system to Normal mode. File-->Safe mode select No for each instance.

2. Then try to start the java system.

sapcontrol.exe -prot PIPE -host <hostname> -nr <instance number> -function GetSystemInstanceList from your central system

Hi Yogesh,

Just try to restart your JAVA system once using SAPCONTROL commands line and check for the SDM process in it whether started.

I have seen similar issue which are resolved after restarting the JAVA.

sapcontrol -nr <instance no> -function RestartSystem

due verify if your sapstartsrv service is running before doing this. and do a service restart for the sapcontrol too.

sapcontrol -nr <instance no> -function RestartService

Let us know the outcome of same.
