Storage Location

As SAP recommends to use one storage location within a plant in warehouse number.

Can anyone please explain under which situation we need to use more than on storage location for one warehouse?

Because if we use only one storage location then in warehouse management transaction, no entry field is required for storage location since the storage location is determined by the system.

In order to avoid complexity we need to maintain only one storage location.

Can you give me some case example in which it is essential to create more than one storage location.

Please do not get into such notions.

Storage locations are for accounting and they explain how your stocks are stored. Let us consider that you have these materials in the same company and same plant - Raw materials, Finished stocks, damaged and non usable stocks, highly flammable liquids, etc. Do you want to store and value these in the same way? Definitely not.

The classification of these stocks into storage location helps you to account properly though they belong to the same company, accounted in the same plant and stored in the same warehouse.

The warehouse is defined for plant + storage location. You can create as many records with the combination. Happy warehousing.

uses of storage location is depend on the business process, take a scenario where you do the in- house production. you store the raw materiel and packing material in the warehouse and upon requirement from production line side you transfer the stock to line side for consumption...in this scenario the recommended approach is to define a separate storage location for storage and separate storage location for production area

similarly in some organization they want to excise stock in one storage location and duty paid good in different storage location so in this case you can create multiple storage location

there is no fix rule and this depend upon your business requirement
