Interface between the WMS and 3rd party automated storage system

Hello Gurus,

We are planning to interface between SAP WMS (ECC6.0)and 3rd party automated storage system called Kardex Remstar.

Based on the research, we can do this using warehouse control unit (WCU).

Here is my question.

Do we need PI for this interface or WCU would be sufficient?

Your input would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Eddie

It depend on the architecture what you have or planning to communicate in between both the system, i suggest to have a look on the below mentioned standard SAP link and identify the scenario which fits in your business requirement and check the detail

Scenarios: Warehouse Control Unit Interface - IDoc Interface: EDI Application Scenarios (BC-SRV-EDI)...

It looked to be either scenario 2 (semi-automated) or 3 (fully-automated).

With that said, is PI needed or need more information?

i had a look on the Kardex Remstar site

LogiMAT 2012 - IT-based Logistics Solutions: Efficient. Fast. Easy. - Kardex Remstar</title> &...

Based on this it looks like you need PI to interact with the Kardex Remstar system. you can define the Kardex as a logical system and can use IDoc for exchange of information in between these two system

If we were to link it via ALE from OMKY would we still need PI?

I am not too sure if we need both OMKY and PI or just one to do the job.

Manish,

If we go with PI where do we define things like interface control that is in OMKY?

Or do we still have to setup the settings in OMKY?

Thank you,

Eddie

you can use OMKY to define the external partner(logical system) however my experience with standard OMKY setting was not good hence we used custom table for logical system mapping and user exit to write the piece of code to trigger the IDoc on certain condition.
