EJB related persistence.xml settings

When using EJBs in Netweaver can anyone explain the significance of the following options to EJBs, if any, when editing persistence.xml:

-No automatic locking

-Automatic locking

-Automatic locking but tables not defined in data dictionary.

I’m assuming automatic locking is the correct option in most cases?
