We are planning to upgrade standalone system 4.5 to 6.1.
Apart from the upgrade guide, can anyone share their thoughts and experiences.
1. Is HANA necessary
2. Since 4.5 was dual stack how to approach system upgrade. Does configuration and code get moved with no issues?
3. Since 4.5 had separate functional configuration for navigation pages, how does that get translated to 6.0/6.1 system without issues
4. Any thoughts on pitfalls during master data and transactional movement that we should consider
5. Is upgrade from 4.5 to 6.0 instead of 6.1 more advisable
Thank you.
Hi,
1) HANA is optional, all databases supported by NW are suported.
2) 6.1 requires NW 7.4 which does not support dual stack.
3) and 4) As of 5.0 and higher, the Portfolio Management (PFM) part of the applications has a WebDynpro ABAP UI instead of the 4.5 Java UI. So all enhancements etc. have to be newly created.
5) No real difference between upgrade from 4.5 to 6.0 or 6.1, they major technical changes are between 4.5 and 5.0.
Kind regards,
Florian

Thanks for your response Florian.
This would be upgrade from RPM 4.5 to 6.0/6.1
Few followup questions -
1.When you say all enhancements have to be newly created, do you mean even the ABAP WDs? Or were you referring to JAVA WDs specifically.
.2. Does Master data like Portfolio and buckets get recreated automatically with Transactional data Items/Projects data in them during upgrade?
Thank you.
Hi,
1) Yes, I meant Java WD enhancements. In principle, ABAP enhancements should still work.
2) Application data in the DB stays the same during upgrade / doesn't need to be updated (only few XPRAs might run during upgrade and convert data automatically, but that's an exceptional case).
Kind regards,
Florian
