Oracle 10.2 enterprise edition installation failing on Windows 2008 R2 64 bit

Hi Experts,

I am trying to install oracle enterprise edition 10.2 on windows server 2008 R2 64 bit system.

My laptop is of type AMD64(intel Core I3 2nd generation).

So I tried to run the installation from folder AMD64> Database>Setup.

While the installation screen is coming and I select next to continue the installation, it is giving abnormal program termination message.

I have already modified the file Oraparam.ini by adding windows version 6.0 there (as oracle 10.2 do not support windows server 2008 by default) and also modified the XML files present in database>stage>prereq> db path to adapt the changes for windows server 2008.

Still the installer is giving the same error.

Please help.

Thanks,

Arijit

Hi arijit,

To install the 10.2g on window server 2008 R2 you need to install the failsafe version 3.4.1.5.

On SMP goto ORACLE 10.2 64-BIT -> Microsoft Windows -> ORACLE Database

And download the oracle version

Hi Arijit.

New SAP projects and installation should be on Oracle 11g.

Firstly, you do not have to pay additional payment to Oracle (because free extended support is over now and 10.2 is no longer supported. also you are not allwoed to download patches from marketplace if you do not have an extended support contract with Oracle itself), secondly with 11g you do not have to modify any file to accept Windows 2008.

Hi Arijit,

Have you checked with supportability at Product Availability Matrix | SAP Support Portal

for the process you're performing right now ?

You could try a workaround here by changing compatibility of setup.exe of oracle 10.2 file by choosing properties.

After that try to run the setup again & share the relevant logs if any.

Hope this will help you.

Gaurav

Hi Arijit,

If you've tested compatible version than try to use Oracle Fail safe server DVD to continue the process of installation. You can download the required from SMP Databases | SAP Support Portal

Hi Gaurav,

Using failsafe server for oracle installation went fine.

I was able to complete the oracle installation without any issue.

Thanks,

Arijit
