Hi,
Some archive files in our SAP system are now more than 6 years old, which is the Retention Period for these archive files. Now, we need to remove these archive files from the Archive File System (in Application server). How will we do this ? Will basis team do this for us ?
Thanks and Regards,
Anuj
Hi Anuj,
I recommend the approach mentioned by Dharshan. ILM is helpful in resolving this kind of issues with out any descripency in the data.
Thanks,
Bala.

Hi Anuj,
As David mentioned there is no option in SARA transaction to delete the archive file. Is your SAP system connected to any content repository. Basically once the store job runs archive files moves from sap file system temporary location to permanent location like IXOS storage box( to a content repository). Every customer has online-residence and retention policy of sap transnational data. If the retention policy for archived data is over then it can be removed from the external storage device. For better clarity you need to get in touch with either server team or basis team to get more clarity as how archived files are moved/deleted once the retention Policy is over.
Note: Once you delete the archive file from external storage device you will not be able to view the archive data from SAP. So this has to be taken care of. Thanks.

Hi Anuj,
The best way to handle retention period is by using SAP Information Lifecycle Management (ILM). Please note that you can apply these rules to existing archives and then destroy the information. The process is explained in Converting Archive Files for ILM - SAP Information Lifecycle Management - SAP Library .
Thanks and Regards,
Santo.

Hi Anuj,
For flexible management of Retention periods on archive files and data, i would suggest you to use SAP ILM Solution.

Hello,
In Data archiving (tr. SARA) there is no option to delete archive
files (either stored in file system or in content repository).
You could remove the archive files directly at content repository side,
however in this case these files will be not accessible from tr. SARA.
Storing archive files in database is not recommended. Read SAP note 71935.
There exist no standard program to remove such archived data from database table.
If really don't need these Archive files you need check with basis team.
Regards,
David
