SMP 3.0 SP04/SP05 and Relay Server

Former Member

Hi All,

Greetings!!

We are planning to Install SMP 3.0 SP04 or SMP 3.0 SP05 for developing OData based applications. And we know MBO Runtime Server comes as a side car along with SMP 3.0, which supports relay server.

Does SAP Mobile Platform server 3.0 SP04/SP05 used for developing OData based apps too (not the side car) supports the Relay server or do we need to use any other reverse proxy like Apache.

Awaiting for your suggestions on the same.

Thank you.

Regards,

Ela

Hi Ela,

SMP 3 supports relay server and reverse proxy.

When you are using relay server there are limitations - It will not support offline feature and it will not support Agentry that use Odata service from Odata SDK.

Hi Midhun,

Thanks for your reply.

We are going to built an IOS app which is online and we use OData approach (Going to consume OData Web services). So in this case, will relay server be a good option as reverse proxy?

Please suggest.

Hi Ela,

The app should work in online with relay server.

If you have an existing relay server you can configure it with SMP 3, else I would suggest you to start with reverse proxy.

Regarding the question on configuring relay server with SMP 3, you can follow this guide:

Hi Ela,

SMP 3.0 is used to develop applications based on OData only. Various backend sources need to be converted to OData, so that SMP can consume and develop applications.

Now, MBO runtime is an added feature which is used to support the MBO based applications. SMP has given this feature only to support the existing customers who have applications based on MBO and SAP recommends to move to OData as early as possible.

MBO runtime has nothing to do with Relay server support. SMP 3.0 can be made compatable with relay server with some changes. SMP generally supports Apache reverse proxy.

Hi Shiv,

Thanks for your information.

Previously we use to configure relay server in SCC but we don't have provision for configuring relay server in SMP now as it has only Management Cockpit.

In this case, how can we configure it. Could you please help with some suggestion on this.

Regards,

Ela
