SAP doesn't start after SQL database restore from another old instance

Dear Freinds,

I am not a basis consultant. I had a development server which crashed.

I installed SAP ECC 6.0 on another server. The server name and SAP SID was kept same as old one on the new server. After successfull installation I was able to start the SAP and login.

However I restored the SQL backup taken from old SAP installation to newly installed one. The restore was successful but the SAP doesn't start after that. The icon remains yellow in SAP Management Console.

Please guide me as how do  find the issue and fix the same.

Thanks & Regards,

Rajesh Singh

Hi Rajesh,

Analyze your work directory log files to find the issue - usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGSXX/work. Did you copy the sap profiles from source usr\sap\SID\SYS\profile?

Thanks,

Kavitha Rajan.

Hi Rajesh,

Please run os command "R3trans -d" via user <sid>adm, afterwards you will get a screen output

about the return code. Then you can find a file named trans.log under current directory.

Please upload to this discussion or you can have a reference by yourself.

Best regards,
James

Hi Rajesh

Are you having full backup of MS SQL (Master,Model & Temp DB) & SAP DB? If it is yes, then follow the steps

1.  Install the new Windows OS with all service pack & Security updates

2.  Keep the system name as it is before

3.  Install the MS Sql server

4,  From the full db backup restore the SAP DB and restore the Sql db files in different location.

master.mdf

mastlog.ldf

model.mdf

Modellog.ldf

5. Stop the MS Sql server service

6.  rename the those four files  to

master.mdf

mastlog.ldf

model.mdf

Modellog.ldf

7. Copy the file which your are restore from the backup.

8. Restart the system.

9. check the MS Sql Server service status

10. Before start the SAP you can run the command " R3trans -d"  and then start the SAP instance,

Hello Rajesh,

Can you connect to DB. What is the return code for R3trans -d.

Can you attach developer trace files. (dev_ms and dev_disp).

And also trans.log file.

I advise you to uninstall the system without deleting the DB. (you will not need one more restore)

Then reinstall the system using database specific homegenous system copy method.

After successfull installation it wil run.
