NetWeaver 7.3 Trial - WebGUI issue

Former Member

Hello experts!

I have installed NetWeaver 7.3 Trial on Windows 7 64 bit as a local installation.

The installation went fine.

However, I was not able to log into the system via web gui at http://localhost:8000/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui?sap-client=000

[On Firefox I get the message: 'Unable to connect' and on IE I get 'Page can't be displayed'].

I continued with the process and installed SAP GUI and I am able to login, got a license and the developer key was installed correctly.

So all good...except that I am not able to use the web gui.

I have tried to look for similar issues on SCN but nothing has helped me resolve this.

My /etc/hosts looks like this:

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.

        127.0.0.1       localhost

        ::1             localhost

        192.168.1.20    MicroServer

I can ping to localhost, Microserver, 192.168.1.20 and 127.0.0.1 from the command prompt.

[Thus, I have not installed the MS loopback adapter].

I have also tried switching off the firewall to no avail.

I am unable to change the ICM Parameter, trans. SMICM shows me this:

    Services

    icm/server_port_0     = PROT=HTTP,PORT=0,TIMEOUT=60,PROCTIMEOUT=60

    icm/server_port_1     = PROT=SMTP,PORT=0,TIMEOUT=120,PROCTIMEOUT=120

Now I assume the HTTP port should be 8000 instead of 0 but I do not get any option to change this (I have tried Goto -> Parameters -> Change), the entries for icm/server_port_0 are greyed out.

I have tried to check trans. SICF, I see the entry for sap bc -> gui -> sap -> its -> webgui and I have activated the webgui service.

And yes both the msg_server.EXE and disp+work.EXE are running and are 'green' in the SAP management console.

The MaxDB Studio works fine as well.

So please help me to get the WebGUI working.

Many thanks in advance.

Sanjay

Dear Sanjay,

in parameter icm/server_port_0 you have PORT=0 but trying to connect to port 8000

HI  Sanjay ,

Go to transaction RZ10 , select your Instance profile and you can change the parameter .

Once the parameter is changed restart ICM in txn SMICM  the parameters will take effect .

Thanks ,

Manu

Dear Alexander,

Yes, that was my concern as well. As I mentioned I am not able to change that entry. Any idea how to change that entry?

[And when I try with http://localhost:0 it does not work either because that is a restricted address.]

Thanks

Sanjay

Hi Manu,

There are no instance profiles in RZ10. Do I create a new one? Or is something missing?

Many thanks

Dear Sanjay,

After you imported profiles you can edit it. If not you can edit it on filesystem /sapmnt/<SID>/profile/

Hi Manu,

The profile check has returned some confusing log for me:

     Default profile D:\usr\sap\NSP\SYS\profile\DEFAULT.PFL

Could not be read. The import is therefore not possible.

     Instance profile \\MicroServer\sapmnt\NSP\SYS\profile\NSP_DVEBMGS00_MicroServer

Could not be read. The import is therefore not possible.

     Start profile \\MicroServer\sapmnt\NSP\SYS\profile\START_DVEBMGS00_MicroServer

Could not be read. The import is therefore not possible.

This was all in red, which means something is wrong somewhere else.

At another place it mentioned:

Log for instance profile , Complete check

     Physical profile name      :

       \\MicroServer\sapmnt\NSP\SYS\profile\NSP_DVEBMGS00_MicroServer

     Log for entire check

     No errors found

And then again in red it said:

     Instance profile missing.

So I am bit confused. May be I should check the system log (?).

Thanks

Sanjay

Dear Alexander,

I am unable to find '/sapmnt/' what is the full path for it? [I am on Windows 7].

Is there a corresponding location for this on Windows?

Many thanks

Hi Sanjay ,

Your profile is more than 60 characters . Please read the following SAP Note

1636297 - Profile import gives error "Could not be read"

rename your profile to

\\MicroServer\sapmnt\NSP\SYS\profile\NSP_DVEBMGS00_M  and import  in RZ10 . After you import successfully in RZ10  rename it back to original

The llocation of your profile files will be : \\MicroServer\sapmnt\NSP\SYS\profile\

Thanks ,

Dear Manu,

Many thanks for your help.

I have renamed the file but still getting the errors in RZ10:

Log for the import of profiles

     Default profile D:\usr\sap\NSP\SYS\profile\DEFAULT.PFL

Could not be read. The import is therefore not possible.

     Instance profile \\MicroServer\sapmnt\NSP\SYS\profile\NSP_DVEBMGS00_MicroServer

Could not be read. The import is therefore not possible.

     Start profile \\MicroServer\sapmnt\NSP\SYS\profile\START_DVEBMGS00_MicroServer

Could not be read. The import is therefore not possible.

     Instance profile \\MicroServer\sapmnt\NSP\SYS\profile\NSP_DVEBMGS00_MicroServer

Could not be read by file; Therefore could not be checked.

     (Server = MicroServer_NSP_00  )

     Only one profile specified

You must specify 1 default and at least 1 instance profile

It seems it is still looking for the old file. Are the values cached somewhere else? Do I need to restart something after renaming the file?

Kind regards

Sanjay

Ok . perform as follows

Go to TXN RZ10

On the  field : Profile enter NSP_DVEBMGS00_M . ( Believe this is the name of your instance profile now )

The click on   profile ( Menu) import .

You will get a screen  ( First maintain management data )  select ok

On the new screen type something in the description and click "copy"

Also  can you check whether the Default profile is also present at the same location as that of Instance profile

Hi Manu,

I'm feeling bad that I'm bothering you a lot...

This leads to a situation in which the the status is 'Not saved' and on trying to save it says 'no profile parameters maintained'. Where do I do that?

It does not allow me to change anything either:

The save button in the initial screen (Maintain screen) is greyed out. I've tried it with SAP* as well, no difference.

What next?

Many Thanks

No issues . The steps are itself not detailed in the SAP Note .

Please perform as follows

Do as mentioned in my previous post once again  ( starting /nRZ10)

Once you have done that click once again  profile ( Menu) - > import  . Now you would able to see the files in the profile location . Choose the correct instance profile ( the same one you renamed ) and click copy

Now click on save and activate the profile

Thanks ,

OK, I have been able to pick the file and progress to the next screen but

the save is still greyed out:

Click on parameter  ( on top of your screen shot  ) - you will be redirected to a new screen

Enter the icm parameter  and hit enter . Once you add the new parameter   ( parameter Val : ) hit  copy .

One you are back to your initial screen your save button will be active

Hi Manu,

Many thanks.

With some fidgeting around I managed to save it. Now do I go back and rename the instance file?

Hi Sanjay ,

You must rename back the file in the OS level .  After that you can  perform the same procedure  ( but with the full instance  name ) to import into RZ10  .

A  restart of the ICM should fix your issue

Hi Manu,

Many thanks for this.

The profile is now changed, things have progressed from there. Had to restart the app. server and then do a SICF for two entries. I can now see the word 'Logon' on the tab heading but it is taking too long to load, as a matter of fact it has just come up the logon screen (after about 2 minutes). I put the credentials but it(Firefox) has done nothing. It did have a warning message "No switch to HTTPS occurred, so it is not secure to send a password". Tried with IE and it also had the same warning but has carried on..it is saying 'Please wait (Page loading)' for some time...seems forever now.

A few more questions:

Are there any more settings that need to be done to improve the loading?

Is there a specific browser that's better for SAP WebGUI. Are there any additional settings that need to be done to the browser config?

How do we enable the HTTPS? [Do we need to install the Crypto pack?]

[Also, since the original problem is resolved, should I start a new discussion for this?]

Thanks a lot for your time.

Kind regards

Sanjay
