Hello,
I'm currently evaluating modelling softwares for my Company (Renelco SA).
I have installed a trial version of PowerDesigner 16 on MS Windows 8.1
Since PowerDesigner seems to run correctly, there is a big problem when it comes to print a diagram
(on a physical printer as well as using PDF Creator).
Most of the attempts to print something end with a crash of PowerDesigner with the well known message
"Pdshell16.exe has stop working". (see screenshot)
What's the problem with PrintOut functionnality.
I only encounter this problem in this case and, when it happens, the only action I can perform is to click
on the Close button, thus exiting from the app.
As I can see when googling, it seems to be a recurrent problem (PdShellXX.exe crash).
Since the goal of modelling tools is to supply documents that are generally shared with other people,
I find this kind of problem very inconvenient.
Thanks in advance for your support
Best Regards.
To understand, you are just going to file print, correct? Or are you using the report writer and then choosing to print to rtf and save as a PDF?

So you must be even more autist than I am
Unfortunately, I must sometimes share my analysis with other people.
In order to save the environment, I generally use PDFCreator.
HTML is a great idea as long as you are able to put something in your HTML Docs.
With PowerDesigner I have the impression that I'll have to use screenshots and Gimp to get something like PNGs.
Not very professional for a piece of SW that costs around $ 6'000
Too bad, the other functionnalities of the SW seems to be great ...
You can create PNG files from PD symbols manually. See the PD help:
Core Features Guide > Modeling with PowerDesigner > Diagrams, Matrices, and Symbols
To export one or more symbols from PowerDesigner, select them in the diagram and then click Edit Export Image to open a Save As dialog, select a format in the Save As Type list, enter the filename and click OK.
You can export symbols in any of the following file type formats:
File type | Extension |
---|---|
Enhanced Metafile | EMF |
Bitmap | BMP, DIB, RLE |
JPEG Compliant | JPG, JPEG |
Portable Network Graphic | PNG |
Graphics Interchanged Format | GIF |
