Good day everyone.

When I installed IQ 16 I forgot to apply the license.  Now I got this error.

I generated the permanent license file from marketplace.  How to install it?

Thanks in advance.

Emerson,

You simply need to drop the contents of the license output into a text file that ends in '.lic'.  Put this file in the directory with the catalog (that's the easiest) or put it in the SYSAM-2_0/licenses directory under your $SYBASE/%SYBASE% directory.

You may also need to modify the '.lmp' file that is in your catalog directory, too.  That file contains the license type that must match the license you are installing.

Check out Gi-sung Jang's blog on this here:

Hello Mark,

In this server the directory sybase\SYSAM-2_0  only contains two folders, bin and locales.

I copied the .lic file to sybase\SYSAM-2_0\bin and the run sysam status -a and got this error.

E:\sybase\SYSAM-2_0\bin>sysam status -a

lmutil - Copyright (c) 1989-2007 Macrovision Europe Ltd. and/or M

oration. All Rights Reserved.

Flexible License Manager status on Thu 1/22/2015 09:51

[Detecting lmgrd processes...]

Error getting status: No SERVER lines in license file. (-13,66)

Then I look for the .lmp file , and the only file found is iq.default.lmp in E:\sybase\IQ-16_0\Sysam folder. When I open that file contains this text string:

What else am I missing?

Thanks.

You need to create the licenses directory.  Putting the file anywhere other than in licenses or in the catalog directory will not work.  We only check a few directories at startup and bin is not one of them.

Are you trying to run a served or unserved license?  What type of license did you create on our portal? The 'sesame' common you ran is for a served license and has no bearing on an unserved one.

Mark,

I created the licenses folder in E:\sybase\SYSAM-2_0\licenses  then moved the .lic file there and still get the same error.

Initially I generated the license as UNSERVED,  then after your last reply I generated the file as SERVED and copied it to the above folder and now the error message is:

E:\sybase\SYSAM-2_0\bin>sysam status -a

Let's take a step back....

Are you trying to setup SYSAM to serve licenses to more than one instance of SAP software?  Or are you looking for a way to simply have a single instance of IQ run with a license?

If you want a SYSAM server, you will need to do a lot more than just drop a file on the host.  There's a SYAM manual that walks you through how to set it up.  I strongly advise against this if you are just trying to get one instance of IQ running.  It takes a process that is very, very simple and overcomplicates it.

Let me know which path you want to proceed down: server or unserved.  Then we can help you get there.

Hello Mark,

I just want to make this server usable.  We do not have more IQ servers here so I just want license this server only.

It seems the main fault is not use the license file when I was installing the software,  I thought adding the license later would not be that hard.

Thanks.

OK.  That's great news.  And really simple...

First, check your licenses back in to SMP.  Then check out an unserved license.  Copy that content to a file ending in '.lic' to your host.  Put it in either the SYSAM-2_0/licenses or in the directory of the catalog.  I prefer the catalog directory, but that's just me.

I would then stop and start IQ.  In the console output you should see that it is pickup up the license.  If it finds the file but cannot check out the license, that likely means that your .lmp file is inconsistent with the licenses in the .lic file.  If you don't have an lamp file in the catalog directory, that's ok.  One will get created when IQ starts.

Once you do this, cut and paste the console output in reply so that I can see whether or not IQ picked up the valid license.  The 'sesame' utilities are only for served licenses, so don't try running those.

Hello Mark,

I did reboot the operating system windows and then generated a brand new unserved license file that was copied to licenses folder (don't know what is the catalog directory).

When start IQDemo database this is the error:

Server Failed to Start: No SYSAM License Available.

The console output is this:

The catalog directory is the location of your IQ .db file (called the catalog).

In the catalog directory, is there a file with the .lmp extension?  If so, what are the contents?  What type of license did you generate?  Development?  Standby?  Production?

In your startup output, you should see something like this:

I. 02/17 17:07:20. 0000000000 Using licenses from: C:\Programmi\Sybase\SYSAM-2_0\licenses\ExpressEdition.lic;C:\ProgramData\SybaseIQ\demo\ExpressEdition.lic

Another useful link on this topic is here:

It refers to the Express Edition, but the basic steps are the same.  The only changes would be the values for PE and LT.

Hello Mark,

Did copy the .lic file the catalog directory and same errors.

The catalog directory has iqdemo.lmp and this is the content:

948D74A0D6DC2DC518931F70494AE69DD5715D7C8FDB8790EB

F84E239A9BC93AEA56810410FCDA39AAE1A8AAE7BAD67F167F

The license key was generated as development.

The startup output does no show anything about license , is the same output I posted in previus message.

Before asking I did search and found the link you recommend but cannot find where to find the values cuz in this server there are no PE=XE and LT=CP in iq.default.lmp

Instead the iq.default.lmp contents are:

175B66B050E077E7A8BB2BD9DAD112B0ED443AEA56DB5CF46B

OK, so edit the iqdemo.lmp file.  Remove the contents and add in 2 lines.

PE=EE

LT=DT

The PE=EE tells sysam that this is an enterprise license.  The LT=DT tells sysam that this is a development license.

OK, so this is good.  We know that it is picking up the license file.  Can you include a copy of the license file?  It is node locked so there's no worry of anyone using it.

This will give more details on the proper PE/LT settings.

It will also show whether or not the license file is complete.

The one thing that is for certain, though, is that the HOSTID you provided when you generated the license does not match that of the machine.  Please verify how you created the host id for the license generation and make sure that it follows our process for your platform.

Hello Mark,

I was using the disk serial to generate the hostid, then changed to NIC Mac address and now works fine with the new file.

Really appreciate your valuable help.  Thanks
