Upgrade from ERP 6.0 EHP3 to ERP 6.0 EHP7

Dear All,

We are planning to upgrade our ERP SYSTEMS from ehp3 to ehp7

Technical info:

Erp 6.0 ehp3

Netweaver 700 SPS23

Kernel 721_ext_rel

Database : SQL Server 2008r2

Windows : server 2008r2 sp1 Enterprise Edition

On existing platform I'd like to upgrade our sap server. While generating upgrade stack file in Solman MOPZ selecting Kernel 742 Unicode.

But the problem is Kernel 742 doesn't support SQL SERVER 2008R2..

Kernel 741 does support our existing platforms. So, Is there any way to select/change Kernel in MOPZ/SUM Tool (exe folder)?

If I have to go with 742 Kernel,  I need to update Stack to 26 & Upgrade our database to sql server 2012.

Without upgrading sps & database is their any way to upgrade sap erp to ehp7?

Note: Only production server running on Windows failover cluster 2008r2 sp1. Dev & Qas are non-cluster systems with same platform releases. I'm not sure whether sql server 2012(DB) supports Windows Failover cluster 2008r2 sp1 (OS) or not.

Please suggest me on this.

Thanks & Regards,

Venkatesh P

Dear Venkatesh,

if you would like to go for EHP7 then you have to ensure that your OS/DB combination is supported with that release.

Please check the Product Availability Matrix on below URL:

https://service.sap.com/sap/support/pam?hash=pvnr%3D01200314690900005013%26pt%3Dt%257CPLTFRM%26ainst...

Depending on the target release support package level (SAP_BASIS 740) you have to choose your kernel level. Please check note #1969546 (Release Roadmap Kernel 740) for more information.

Finally you have to upgrade your OS and DB before performing the upgrade. Although the OS/DB combination will not be supported for productive use, it will be supported for upgrade purposes.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hello Andreas,

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I checked PAM. Kernel 741_rel supports existing OS/DB(windows 2008r2).

I chose NW 740 SAP_BASIS SPS6 in MOPZ, by that I got 741 Kernel. It supports till sap_basis sps7.

The only thing is Version 740 SAP_BASIS SPS8 requires 742 Kernel. So I chose SPS 6. it's enough for our environment.

So I can continue the upgrade and It support productive environment right?

Thanks & Regards,

Venkatesh P

Hi Venkatesh

I think you have to upgrade the MS Sql 2012 R2. Kindly follow the steps:

1. Current ECC system NW 7.00 SP 23 to Minimum sp level 28, along with MS SQl latest service pack.

2. Upgrade the existing MS SQL 2008 R2 to 2012 R2. refer the SAP Note 1676665 - Setting up Microsoft SQL Server 2012

3. Upgrade the ECC system to NW 7.4

Hello Venkatesh

I can see that kernel 7.41 is supported in PAM.

What is the target SP level you are planning to go to?

Here is the PAM entry

Also check the SAP note 1994690 - Using the 7.41 kernel instead of 7.40 to know about using kernel 7.41

If MOPZ is not letting you select the kernel 7.41 then create the stack file with ones that are available and manually update the kernel with 7.41 release in the shadow system.

Important: Read the above note and the one supplied by Andreas to know the possible options.
