Lumira Server 1.22 HANA support

Former Member

Lumira 1.22 became GA today. I noticed that the PAM says the following about support for HANA SP09. Apparently SP09 is not supported for Productive usage!!!

Note that HANA Revision 90 and 91 are supported for test and evaluation purposes only. These Revisions are not recommended for productive use with Lumira Server 1.22.

I am surprised that after almost two months of SP09 being GA we still do not have support for the latest Lumira Server version. This is even more surprising considering SAP's agile release approach with Lumira Server. I cannot fathom why there is such misalignment in the support of products which are so mutually dependent. Does anybody have any insights into when SP09 will be supported for Productive usage? May be some one from SAP would care to answer.

Thanks,

Gaurav

Hi,

I am responding with latest information about the Lumira Server SP22 <-> HANA SP09 disclaimer. This is coming from Note 2118990 - Using Lumira 1.22 with HANA SPS09 (http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2118990)

The “not for productive usage” is intentional (not related to performance issues) and is aligned with the general SAP HANA Revision Strategy (https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700001182742013) which advises productive customers to wait for DSP before moving to a new SPS of HANA. DSP for HANA SPS09 is planned for March 2015. (DSP = SAP HANA Datacentre Service Point)

1) When using Lumira Server 1.22 with pre-DSP Revisions of HANA SPS09, you may experience reduced performance in some scenarios compared to the latest Revisions on SPS08.

-> This DEV investigation is on-going at time of writing. Some emerging information (partial workarounds) to help: Run "ALTER SYSTEM CLEAR SQL PLAN CACHE" in HANA studio. Go to xsengine.ini – httpserver, add embedded = true as parameter; and then restart the server. Then login to Lumira Server.

2) There is also a known issue that after installing Lumira Server on HANA SPS09, it is not possible to open uploaded stories without first opening a dataset (any dataset) and creating at least one visualization. Each time HANA SPS09 is restarted, it is again necessary to open a dataset and create at least one visualization before uploaded stories can be opened.

I hope this information is of use to you.

Regards,
H

Hi,

Early during internal solution validation of Lumira Server SP22, we became aware of performance regressions when deployed atop of HANA rev. 90/91 (versus rev.8x).

The issues have been identified by a HANA team investigation, but i do not yet know exactly how it will be resolved for downstream Lumira use-cases.

I'm going to find out more for you.

Regards,

H
