Having trouble validating temporary license and generating pb125_sysam.log

Former Member

I'm having an issue activating an "extension"/temporary license that was provided to me someone from the SAP temp. license group.

After following the recommended steps:

  1. In the text menu at the top, choose “Tools”
  2.
Then choose the “Update License” menu item

  3. Leave “Standalone Seat – Local License” selected

  4. Click the “Load” commandbutton

  5. Use that interface to point to the *.lic file that was sent.
  6.
    Click “Next”
  7.
    Click “Finish”

At restart, I encounter the following error:

So, I decided to pursue the following steps to get some logging and added the following 'LogSySASM=1' (and later 'LogSySAM=2') to my pb.ini. At startup, I don't see a log file generated. I made certain my user had full control over the Sybase program folder, yet still no log.

After contacting my SAP temp. license contact again, he directed me to this discussion board. Help?

FYI: I've already made a purchase for a single user PowerBuilder license. My organization ran into some contractual issues with SAP that have not allowed me to retrieve my license, so I've been treading on a temp.

Thanks!

Hello,

Open regedit and go to the HKCU\Software\Sybase\PowerBuilder\12.5 folder.   Find InitPath and the value in InitPath  is where PowerBuilder is reading the pb.ini from.

As you mentioned, add the following under the [PB] section:

LogSysam=2

The next time you start PowerBuilder, it will create a pb125_sysam.log file in the same folder as the pb.ini that you just edited.

If you still need assistant, just post the output from the pb125_sysam.log file.

Thank you.

Can you share a copy of your license file PB125.lic located here: C:\Users\bhupats\AppData\Local\Sybase\PowerBuilder 12.5\

Error "2015/01/15 12:51:57  Error (131074): Invalid license file syntax." indicates a wrong file creation...

Thanks

Hi,

What I could see is that your evaluation license will expire shortly (01-24-2015).

This is not a good idea to keep on using it

Each comment should start with a '#'.

How to control in your case that License word is on a new line with your attached license file?

I'm suspicious: Did you change the temporary license yourself with a Text editor?

Did not change the file at all. That is how it was sent to me.

I added a new line on the comment as you suggested, yet still the invalid syntax.

I also tried formatting it by comparing the format to that of a license retrieved from https://global.sap.com/campaign/ne/sybase/power_builder_12_5_trial/index.epx. Still no luck.

Victor,

I reformatted your license.   Try this license:
